How it works

A useful result in four quick steps

There is no account, setup, or hidden scoring system. You define the eligible Pokémon pool and the tool handles the draw.

  1. 01

    Choose your rules

Pick one Pokémon or a team of six, then set a generation, type, or advanced filter.

  2. 02

    Check the eligible pool

See how many Pokémon match and review the exact rules before you use the result.

  3. 03

    Lock and refine

Generate, lock the Pokémon you want to keep, then reroll only the remaining positions.

  4. 04

    Copy or share

Copy the selected names or a URL that recreates the same result, filters, seed, and locks.

Fair draws, clear rules

  • No duplicate Pokémon within a generated result
  • Filters are applied before the random draw
  • Locked choices stay in place during rerolls
  • Shared URLs recreate the selected result

How this random Pokémon generator chooses

This random Pokémon generator first builds an eligible pool from your selected generation, type, and advanced options. A seeded shuffle then chooses unique Pokémon from that pool. Filtering happens before the draw, so a Fire and Generation I selection can only return Pokémon that match both rules. Locked Pokémon remain fixed while every unlocked position receives a new eligible choice.

Images and species attributes come from the community-run PokéAPI dataset. The current pool covers 1,025 Pokémon species introduced across Generations I through IX and uses the default form associated with each species. Regional forms, alternate forms, Mega Evolutions, Gigantamax forms, and other transformations are not separate entries in this version, which keeps results consistent and easier to understand.

This random Pokémon generator is a quick decision tool, not a ROM randomizer or competitive team builder. It does not modify game files or evaluate moves, abilities, held items, type coverage, stats, formats, routes, or availability in a particular game. A randomly generated team can inspire a casual challenge, but it is not a claim that the roster is legal, balanced, or competitively strong.

Use this random Pokémon generator when you want a neutral starting point rather than another recommendation list. You can draw one Pokémon for an art prompt, create six unique choices for a friendly draft, or share a reproducible roster with friends. Each Pokémon result is generated in your browser, and changing a filter immediately rebuilds the eligible Pokémon pool before the next draw.

FAQ

Questions about the generator

Can I generate a full team of six Pokémon?

Yes. The random Pokémon generator can create six unique species in one draw. Choose Build a team of 6, set any generation, type, or advanced filters you need, and select Generate now. Every slot contains a different Pokémon. You can lock the choices you like and reroll the remaining positions without introducing duplicates.

Can I filter the random Pokémon by type or generation?

Yes. Use this random Pokémon generator to combine one of nine generations with any of the 18 standard Pokémon types. Advanced filters can include or exclude Legendary and Mythical Pokémon or limit the pool to fully evolved species. The match count updates before you generate, so you can see whether the chosen rules leave enough eligible Pokémon for one result or a roster of six.

How do locks and rerolls work?

Select the lock button on any Pokémon card you want to keep. Reroll unlocked replaces only the other cards while preserving every locked choice. The generator draws replacements from the filtered pool and excludes species already present in the result, so a reroll cannot create duplicate Pokémon within the same roster.

Will a shared link show the same Pokémon?

Yes. Use this random Pokémon generator to create the result, then choose Share exact result. The URL stores the selected Pokémon, result size, filters, random seed, and lock state. Opening that link restores the same setup and roster, making it suitable for a friendly draft, challenge prompt, classroom activity, or discussion where everyone needs to see identical choices.

Is this an official Pokémon website?

No. This random Pokémon generator is an independent, fan-made utility and is not affiliated with Nintendo, Game Freak, The Pokémon Company, or Niantic. Pokémon names and artwork belong to their respective owners. Species names, types, generations, and image references are sourced from the community-maintained PokéAPI dataset.

Is this a ROM randomizer or competitive team builder?

No. This random Pokémon generator selects Pokémon species and casual rosters without changing any game. It does not modify ROM files, create movesets, recommend abilities or held items, calculate EV spreads, test type coverage, or check tournament formats. It also cannot guarantee that a selected Pokémon appears in a particular game, route, version, or stage of a playthrough.
